We created a modern basement with sleek furniture, a bar, and captivating art, seamlessly blending style and function for relaxation and entertainment.
Once upon a time, in a basement far, far away, there lived orange walls, plush carpet with a few… miles on it, and a bar that looked like it had retired early. It was a space that had technically been finished, but emotionally? Still under construction.
There were not one, but two sectionals—one for each hemisphere of the room—great for avoiding eye contact or reenacting Civil War battle scenes. And somewhere behind the powder room? A mysterious hidey-hole that gave off strong “don’t look back there” energy. Great for hide-and-seek, less great for peace of mind.
Then came the ask: make it warm, make it sleek, make it family-friendly. Keep the shiplap, ditch the wallpaper, and whatever you do—no blue. Easy, right?
We followed two out of three rules. (Sorry, wallpaper haters, but it looks so good.)
We gave the bar a full glow-up—sleek cabinetry, warm textures, and chairs that practically hand you a cocktail. The twin sectionals were voted off the island and replaced with one mega-sofa, perfect for movie marathons or mid-film naps. Behind it, we added a custom ledge/seating/counter hybrid, ideal for snacks, laptops, or launching popcorn like Olympic athletes.
We carved out a new gym (stone accent wall and all), added ping pong territory, and created a kids’ lounge where chaos looks curated. Oh, and that bar? Now it’s less “dad’s man cave” and more “design magazine cover.”
Let’s talk soffits. Couldn’t banish them (structural things matter, we guess), but we distracted them with shiplap and a chair rail so sharp it could file your taxes.
And the powder room? We swapped that mystery closet for actual usable storage and gave the vanity, mirror, and pendant a much-needed spa day.
The final result: a basement that’s cozy, modern, and ready for everything from game nights to gym sessions. It’s sleek. It’s warm. It’s technically wallpapered. And it’s officially a no-orange zone.
(Side note: your old movie posters are alive and well—just living in retirement in the garage.)
